FACTS AND QUESTIONS
WILL IT HURT?
Most people feel a variety of sensations, but rarely do they refer to it as painful. It can feel like a small pinch, ache, tug, or nothing at all. If a point bothers you, there is always a different point to replace it with! Most people become very relaxed and sometimes sleepy during their treatment.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
That will depend completely on what issue you have and how long you've had it. A typical "course" of acupuncture is 10-12 treatments. The faster you can do those appointments, the faster the progress. However, most people are busy and once a week is ok too. You'll still feel progress right away.
IS IT SAFE?
Acupuncture is very safe. We use single-use, sterilized needles only. Board certified acupuncturists have thousands of hours of hands-on experience and sit for rigorous medical board exams (In some states, acupuncturists can be primary health care providers). AZ does not allow this, but AZ acupuncturists are trained in the same way and National Board certification is required.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Comfortable, loose clothing, preferably shorts. Some points may require disrobing to a degree, your acupuncturist will explain what points need to be accessed and will discuss your level of comfort, a sheet is often used as well. You should never feel exposed or uncomfortable.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN A TREATMENT?
Acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, Tui Na massage, supplements, herbal concoctions, nutritional guidance, facial rejuvenation and more can all be a part of your treatment. Treatments are individual to your health needs and can change over time.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACUPUNCTURE AND DRY NEEDLING?
Dry needling is a technique used with acupuncture needles. It is sometimes done by other medical personnel as well as acupuncturists. This technique is limited to very specific injury-based issues.
